Collateral Minds by Kathy Hocking

Synopsis

A world war between the classes, a bold partial solution: The Doppelgänger Clause. The clause was inserted into the treaty that ended the war. It was created to foster empathy for a person from another class by implanting Doppelgänger Chips in the brains of all newborn infants. When activated, dop chips will link two individuals from radically different socioeconomic classes causing them to feel the strong emotions of their Doppelgänger. Will feeling the emotions of another create strong enough empathy to overcome the differences that divide them?

This is the story of two linked teens as they navigate the dangers and the challenges of their first mandatory face-to-face meeting: their Doppelgänger Meet. The situations they encounter mirror today’s headlines and their reactions to them reflect their environmentally tainted characters. Will they betray each other or unite to face the danger from those who fear that this partial solution just might work?

“I love your book so much, I read it twice!”
